Puzzles!

We’ve got puzzles to share with you! Some are simple paper-and-pencil puzzles, others will require some knowledge and clever internet searches, and the most challenging ones will require serious skills and flashes of inspiration. Pick and choose whichever puzzles you like, and feel free to work on them with friends or family, too.

How to Play

Somewhere in every puzzle, there is a concealed password, called the “flag” for that puzzle, which might be something like "OUCHVOLTAGESPIKE". In solving each puzzle, you will discover its hidden “flag”. Type in the flag, and you’ll find out if you got it right. Some of the puzzles have hints, which you should feel free to use if you like.

We've grouped the puzzles into three different levels. Level 1 puzzles are where you might find puzzles that look familiar, but likely still come with a twist. Level 2 might require seeking out some extra information or common puzzle techniques. Then level 3 puzzles are where the sky is the limit, you might need to break out your coding skills, rapidly acquire some specific expertise, or just make some serious mental leaps.

After you register, head over to Challenges to get started. Registration does require a valid email address for password resets, but we won't use it for anything other than vera.codes. We recommend you start with one of the the first four!

About Veracode’s Puzzles

At Veracode, we run “Innovation Hackathons” to get people energized and thinking new ideas. In addition to all of our other Hackathon activities, we always invent some new puzzle challenges. We’ve collected together some of our favorite Hackathon puzzles here, to share with you, to get you energized and thinking new ideas, too!

"Daft Puzzles"

Hackathons at Veracode come with a theme. We've had 90s Hackers, Space, Camp, and even a mysterious, and magical moonlit trip through the Lost Woods for Hackathon 10 5/7. This set of "Daft Puzzles" goes to 11 and comes from Veracode's Hackathon 11 which was a Rock 'N' Roll themed record store called "Exfiltrated Records". You can listen to the soundtrack on Apple Music or Spotify.
